Heya,
As the title suggests, my 1988 Mk2 1.8 Scala (that's a carb car) has developed a whine on first gear in just the last couple of days. It's only in first gear, only up to about 2-2.5k revs and only when the engine is cold.
The noise itself reminds me of the whine a gearbox in an old mini makes.
What could this be? Is it just the beginning of the end for my first gear? The car has a warranted 65k miles, so I'm surprised to be having gearbox trouble at this stage, but I guess one of the previous owners could have just been a tool.
