Rear wheel bearing (kind of) noise

Guys,

Hoping for some know how/intel on the noise coming from the rear of my 2010 1.4 TSI DSG Scirocco. For all the world it sounded like both rear wheel bearings were noisy - car has 89,000 miles on it. I changed both rear hub units - and the noise is still there...?!

It's still exactly like the noise made by worn wheel bearings...which is frustrating and mystifying - anyone have any advice or suggestions please? Any thoughts/know how etc gratefully received.

Thanks and regards

Andy H

It might be worth asking this over on the Scirocco Central forum Andy.
A bit more MK3 specific.

jack the car up and spin the wheel you should be able to hear/feel the noise and from which wheel its coming from.

Welcome to my world - sounds exactly the same as my 2012 A4. On that it was (& still is!) 'feathering' of the rear tyres. Basically it is uneven wear on the inside & outside edges of the tyre - google it. It was pointed out to me at my last MOT. It seems that it has become more common with modern wide (low profile) tyres. If you jack the rear end up & spin the wheel by hand, touch the edge & you'll feel the tyre edges bumping up & down as it goes round. Not really sure yet how to cure it; some say its the rear geometry that's wrong - but I don't think it's adjustable, others have said it's just down to the tyre make (I am on Michelin Primacy's) & to try different make of tyres. Let me know how you get on.

Yep, as farley381 flagged. If the bearings are OK then it's uneven tyre wear.

I've had it on rears on 8 x 16 205/40 - 16 rubber.

have you tried swapping the front wheels to the back and see if the noise goes away?
that might help diagnose a Tyre issue?

Is the rear suspension independent and adjustable on a Mk3?
Might be worth finding out if 4 wheel alignment can be checked....
