New Distributor and Amplifier after a harsh Scottish snowstorm

Hi,

I've been having a bit of a problem ever since I drove my GTII to Scotland from London last month. She made it there without any issues, but after getting stuck in a snowstorm (in April?!) she's not been going well at all. She keeps cutting out. Had the AA tow her back to London for me and to my garage, and after checking the usual suspects of fuel lines and carb, he thinks it's a problem with the distributor and the amplifier. He tells me he cannot find these parts online anywhere, I was wondering if you guys might know somewhere that might stock them, or have some in the shed I could buy.

She's a 1992 K reg 1.8 8v Scitocco GTII with a Pierburg 2E2 carb

I did find this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-SCIRO ... 2384638522) but I'm not 100% sure it's the correct part.

I have a spare distributor here if you wanted to try it, where in London are you?

Worth taking the fuel feed to the carb off and poke it into a bottle and run it, check the fuel as the symptoms also sound like rust/ particulates in the fuel.

i would try one of these or something rather than buying second hand with unknown issues.
or even better replace the electronic part inside your old one

Hi guys,

Sorry I've not really got back to anyone here. I managed to find a site (www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk) that I thought had my part, but my mechanic found it doesn't fit. Turns out the slot that fits into the oil pump is the wrong size, it's slightly too big on the new one, so that's a bust.

I'm in Surrey Quays, but I'm only available at the weekend as I work abroad during the week. If you had time to come over to try your spare, I would be amazingly grateful!

How simple is it to replace the innards of an old distributor? I have only basic tools and a basic brain. I'm more of a computer guy, really.

Thanks everyone!

replacing the electronics parts isn't that hard but you need a delicate touch and a really small set of cir-clip pliers.
its easy to damage the parts if your rough with it so patience is key.

David came round today and fitted his spare distributor and sorted out my dodgy timing. Thanks a ton! The lurching issue seems to have been resolved now! Now on to the leaking rocker cover gasket...
