Scirocco Register

Hello one and all!

I've probably not been a member for 10-15 years, but the temptation to get back into the scirocco family was strong and recently I was unable to pass up the opportunity to acquire a MK2 Storm that needed some love.



The elements have started to take hold of the old girl with the front panel and underside of the bonnet suffering from rust :(





This doesn't look like it has been run in a while, but it is complete and I am sure we can breathe some life back into her!



It did come with some great history - does anyone recognise the car?

Will the perfect storm return to the road?
Time will tell

Where did you find it, in a breakers yard or somebody with a lot of cars?

Seem to recall talk of a Storm in the West Country that ended up in a breakers yard after the owner died ?

Time for a small update!

The front panel and underside of bonnet are gone...lots of rusty bits there, but the rest of the car seems to be very solid indeed!

My friendly local tyre place have helped me out by fitting some tyres that actually hold air to the wheels so that I can move the car around in the unit :) - they fitted new valves too and cleaned up the wheels so that the tyres would "bead" properly - all for free :)

Huzzah! Another Havana Brown getting saved. Keep us up to speed with the resto :)

Just starting rsto on my cosmos blue storm. Spent today removing the body kit. Not too bad under there. Just the rear arches which have been repaired previously. That'll all be coming off as I am planning glass out back to bare metal respray.

Keep in touch on your project...hate to say it but I always wanted brown storm but could never find one !

Little update, Mr Mark Carter has been kind enough to relieve me of some cash in return for a front panel - I hope to pickup this week.

I am going to start the process of recommissioning the engine this week to see if I can get it to run, the plan is:

Drain oil and replace inc filter
New spark plugs
New ignition leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm
New battery
New fuel lines to tank
New fuel pump

Then once it is running I will replace:
Water pump
Camp belt + tensioner
Coolant flush
Another oil change inc filter

Anything else I need to do?

Before starting the car for the 1st time, remove the rotor arm and turn the engine over a few times on the starter to build up oil pressure, replace rotor arm and try to start it.

Cant think of anything else you missed??

Water pump may not need replacing, you can check to any play by wobbling the pulley and can listen for any noises once it's running.

in the 90's we used to take an old distributor , take the gear off and then fit back and attach a drilling machine to it , you can build the oil pressure up for a good few minutes before even cranking the motor making sure oil is everywhere and pressure is good. damn giving my age away - lol
