Scirocco Register

Hi folks
A couple of elecrical q's ... as i work my eay througb my new purchase.
The temp gauge does not work.. i replaced the sender ( well I hope I did ) i changed the sensor nearest the engine blocki in the pipe of two sensors. The gauge did not read when bridged either. Is there owt else before i start looking for a cluster? Talking of clusters there is no illumination on any of the gauges when the side lights etc are on .... where do I start ?

I may be wrong in this but I think the temp gauge is signalled by the small sender which is further away from the block. Panel lights? well, i guess its worth checking the individual bulbs, but unlikely they would all blow I suppose. Continuity of the flexible back panel of the dials ?

Do you know where it is ? I thought it was the one in the hose ?

If your not getting the gauge to go to max when earthed then either you have the wrong sensor and wiring or your clock is dead/ wiring is loose or damaged.

If the gauge and instrument lights aren't working I would suspect the voltage stabilizer on the back of the instrument panel

There are a few checks I would try before condemning the cluster, Check continuity between the sensor and the cluster for a start, a brake in the circuit or corrosion would cause this issue and is the most likely. There should be close to no resistance between these points.

Have a read of Briano1234 post, 2nd post in thread to find out how to test the voltage stabiliser, some useful links in the post that may also interest you. He's from the USA so some things are slightly different on USA cars.
