Advice required on filling underside hole

I have a smallish hole on the underside of the rocco, not big enough to replace/weld a section, just needs patching in my opinion. Its behind the jacking point say 1"x"2. I'm thinking the best way to fix this is to take the surrounding area back to the bare metal, apply a layer of rust proof coating then apply fibre glass to cover the hole followed by some underseal over the top. I haven't tackled anything like this before but I know the underside of the car is solid apart from this small patch.

I would like to hear what your opinions are on the above approach to covering the hole, if you think its a good way to tackle it please let me know, or if you have any other suggestions please share. Thanks

If it's near a jacking point I would weld it.

definately weld it if its near a jacking point.

Sorry I should have explained better, its half way along the car behind the lip so wouldn't necessarily use the jack on that spot.

If you're going to the trouble of getting the car raised and cleaning the area weld a patch in. If it is within 30cm of structural area you have to.
slapping some FG on it is a bit 'unofficial caravan club' and doesn't actually fix the rot.

Get a picture up so we can give you something definitive as an answer.....(weld it....)

believe me for peace of mind get it welded and it will last if done right.
it doesnt cost that much either if you do most of the prep work for a garage IE remove all the carpets and anything combustable and clean it back so all they have to do is tack a plate on.
where abouts are you based maybe someone close by can give you a second opinion?

I've seen biscuit tin lids, Coke cans, road signs, newspapers, bathseal, chicken wire and filler, dishcloths and even underpants used in poor bodywork repairs. In each case I've wanted to kick the culprit right in the sack. Cut it out and weld it properly, the next owner will thank you for it!
