HIS n HERS

In the excitement of firing up my Mk2 the other day and hearing it running and me going on about getting bits for it, oh and reviewing our cars (we have 4) the boss of the house said she would quite like to get a ROCC as well. So at present we have:

1. Alfa Romeo Brera - we are getting rid of
2. BMW 5 series estate (e34) - getting rid as im pretty bored of fixing it and I've changed the water pump, thermostat and it still overheating!!!
3. Audi A3 1.8t - currently on the road but once she has a new car I will be butchering it to parts form my ROCC
4. My ROCC - on the road in the next 2 weeks

So we will have 3 kids and I said we better look at a sensible car and she comes out with id like a scirocco like yours! For starters I don't know how sensible an idea that is, though I may pick up a banged up old Alhambra for cheap when we need all the seats. However, what was the biggest surprise for me was when we went online to look at how much they were, I hadn't realised how the values have slowly climbed quite a bit since I bought mine, many moons ago for quite a bit less than £1000. So cost may mean that it isn't a possibility, though as it is her birthday in august I may look at getting one that needs not tot much work and trying to fit in working on it in amongst a house move and new born, (always relish a challenge).

Anyone else on here got a his and hers car scenario? how do you decide who gets parts first?

I've got to ask, will be looking at replacing my BMW 3 Series estate in a year or so, what's the Brera like? did you have the diesel or the petrol?

"Hers" (nominally, although it has now become the car for whoever doesn't have the children) is a Honda Jazz. So it never needs parts and is immensely practical and economical, but unfortunately extremely dull to drive. Not bad, just dull.

eefy - I always wanted a brera when they 1st came out but had to wait for the depreciation to take full effect :-) then work said get a sensible car and gave me a small car allowance soooo i bought an alfa hahahah .... it lived up to reputation with dpf failure and a rebuild oh and more electrical gremlins than i realised y could have in 1 car... however personally i thought it was visual pornography and when it ran it was amazing i had the 2.4diesel sv with a remap to just shy of 250bhp so it went well... but really would advise as a 2nd car i would keep it if i could afford to as i think theyll be worth a bit in the future..
edmundator - thats what im thinking.. get a sensible reliable practical car for the tribe but then get her a rocc (keep mine of course) so that we have at least 1 workhorse... i do a lot of mile for work and most of the school runs so id probably end up driving the boring car
mk1 gls - i cant afford to go higher than 1000 really and thatll be after the e34 has gone... ive got a bit of time so i may wait till house move, you are right in that ive only had a browse over last 2 weeks so hopefully if patient ill find one...ideally id like it a bit less so ive got money to buy parts to carry out any neccessary repairs.
