most of you have probably fitted the headlight relay upgrade loom to your cars but have you noticed you get dipped beam on both positions of the headlight switch???

so how do you get just your sidelights?

under the slam panel just behind the passenger headlight is a large resister wired into the sidelight wiring that goes to the dipped beam, unplug and remove the resister and hey presto you have sidelights only on the first position of the headlight switch!!!

nice easy fix :ok:

If any one else does have a dim dip resister fitted. (Polo mint packet size thing with 2 wires coming out of it) unplug and remove it as they can catch fire, there's been a few Mk1 Golfs with this problem.
The resister is there to dimly light up the main bulbs when you have side lights on, there is a 4w bulb in the headlight to do this job and the resister just add a little more light but is not needed for MOT so no problem with unplugging and removing it.
