MkII GTX Throttle Switch

Hi,

I have posted a request in the Parts Wanted Section, but does anyone know of an alternative to the now discontinued throttle switch which sits on the throttle body?

My MkII GTX has not been running very well of late, idle increasing to silly speeds and refusing to start. Upon removal of the throttle body, the throttle switch appears to have fallen apart at some point, with the micro switch having fallen out!

The Part Number is 026 133 093.

Cheers,

can you not go to maplins and pick up a generic micro switch?
they're quite cheap so modifying one to fit will do the same job and wont cost a lot.

i think you might be hard pressed to find a vw origenal unless you can pull one out of another vw varient car.

Hi James,

Funnily enough, that's the same conclusion my better half came to, being an electronics engineer. As these are thin on the ground @€60 + postage, knowing that it is a waterproof microswitch worth around £2.00, bit of a no brainer for him.

However, when stripping the old switch down to remove the wiring, he found the switch still worked, it was just missing the 'button' that protruded from the housing. So, armed with his CAD knowledge, he drew up the 'button' and using the 3D printer, made a new 'button' which was duly fitted and presto, one working throttle switch - the idle of the car is now controllable!

Good to hear it's fixed and nothing better than fixing something instead of most car garage answer of throw as many new parts at a car till it's fixed. :-D

For all of those engineers out there and anyone who's interested, please see Phil's blog below about how he fixed the switch.

I'm a bit of a recluse these days but thanks all the same James. :pilot:
