Scirocco Register

I,ve got a 1990 GT, replaced rad fan switch but doesn't cut in till very hot.(assuming temp gauge is right)
The old switch had two pins, is this correct?
The connecter that fits on it, would fit a 3 pin..

If the switch is correct, (bought new 2 pin) then maybe my temp sender is reading hotter than it should..?!
red light comes on but the fan kicks in later than that and then only for a few seconds....

What does the gauge read when moving and driving normally, 1/2 way?
I would try a new temperature gauge sender to see if it reads different.

On my GT2 it's a 3 pin switch - not sure for your GT but I would guess the same.

3 pins for 2 speed fan 2 pin for single speed

Mine is a GT2 now Ive checked...
so will try 3 pin, and maybe new temp sender as well.
My gauge quickly reads 2/3, at that point thermostat opens. Normally reads about 2/3 to 3/4s..

Two of you from Somerset which is were I got the car....It had the wrong temp gauge in to begin with hardly read at quarter.
Would not be surprised if fan switch was wrong perhaps too. Its had a long history, engine off a golf we think?

I bought mine from a small garage in Beaminster, Dorset almost 21 years ago. It was for sale on behalf of the original owner who lived in Yeovil.

What sort of sensor do you have and what colour is it?

Sorted it was temp sender, the top link above type but black..
wish I had tried that first, I bought a new black one only in December, but now wonder if it was faulty all along.(did move quite quickly)
So I now have two spare good 2 pin rad switches, I've fitted the three pin, though looking at the connector it fits the three pins but not sure all three are wired up. Still it works and comes on about 2/3 temp, now my temp sender is showing me more accurate temp.

I bought the car from village near Bath, Green, two lady owners, the 2nd the Niece of the 1st owner.

I'm just up the A303 near Yeovil and not far from the Haynes Motor Museum which is worth a visit but no Scirocco in there, so only just over an hour from Exeter.

Perhaps with scumpyone we will have to arrange a South West meet sometime or perhaps a convoy if you are going up to the national meet in August?

No plans to go to national meet yet, but may do. But yes would be good to get the sciroccos together. Also I will let you know next heading up the A303, I am overdue a trip to Haynes also..

At Haynes they have built a new front and fitted in a big new cafe which is very nice and if you are just passing you don't have pay the admission fee to get in the cafe but will still need to pay to get into the bits with the cars.

See if we can sort out a day and place to meet when the weather gets a bit warmer.
