Anybody had any experience with or got/had/fitted a Jetex exhaust fitted on their 'rocco please?

Just had mine fitted and it looks horrendous, doesn't line up, crap clearance on the beam and hangs so low that I will need to raise my car if I want to keep it on there!

And none of the supplied mounts actually fit anywhere :?

Hi,

I have just fitted one to Gayle's car. Fits exactly the same as yours. Badly.
Fortunately I didn't buy it, it came already fitted to my old car and I replaced it with my stainless system.
I managed to get it fitting slightly higher by using rubber ring mounts instead of the ones you are using, but it's still not ideal.

Ben.

Looking from this side the clearance over the beam looks better

Not sure the centre box looks like it's the right shape

that centre box is really low! the wide mounting points for the back box is how mine is. I will be under mine tonight so will take some pics if i remember. pretty sure i can hardly see my centre box.

Just over an inch off the floor!

Did you use the extra wide mount? Only on side would go in? You're a star, thank you.

it looks like the centre box needs rotating. in my mind this would lift the centre box and push the exhaust tip in right direction. i assume it means the hanger won't line up though but a small o ring hanger may fix that. i have been misleading with my comment. mine isn't the same system, just thought some reference pics may be useful.

I thought that originally but looking at this picture (zoom in)

It looks like the box is already filling the centre tunnel

That's cool, cheers.

yup they're rubbish and your having the same issue i had.
seriously take it off and send it back.
it's far better to go to a stainless steel outfitters and get one custom made from stainless with a lifetime warranty.

to get mine to fit right i ended up removing the centre box a cutting and shutting the up and over pipe that goes over the rear beam.
even then i got rubbish fuel economy and a flat spot in the throttle response between 1000-2000rpm

even if you rotate the centre box the pipe by the beam will hit the tank or rattle off the beam.
the bracket at the back i had forgotten that i had to cut mine and extend it by 2 inches to get it to sit in the right place and fit into the original 2 rubbers.
i will have a look in the shed as i might still have the home made bracket to make it fit right if you want to still fit the jetex.

It does seem quality is going down on these sadly, the one on the BRM needs an annual remount. Woof.
Have them on three other cars, all fine but slightly older.

Just one thought, this is an early car with 40 litre fuel tank? Rear box mounts will be different I THINK and rear valances can differ too on non bodykit cars, my gtl has a smaller recess compared to the GTX's and the Scala.

Thanks for all the replies Gents, I think we've got it sussed (famous last words!)

Jetex and VW Heritage have been really helpful and it looks like it is to do with earlier cars and the fuel tank as mentioned by a couple of you.

So between the wrong centre pipe and what turns out to be slightly poor fitting it was a mess. Took it back today and the gaffa of the garage had a go....went to colect it and.....

Loads of ground clearance!!! Not one bang or scrape on the way home or when crawling onto my driveway!! I'm a very happy bunny.

I still need to get the correct centre pipe as it has the proper hangers welded on rather than using that huge bar (correct one in the picture below) so that should change the angle the rear box sits at so the tailpipe exits in the right place

Not as bad as it was

I have the twin tailpipe Jetex exhaust fitted to my Rocco with the 16v. My local tyre exhaust shop offered to fit it for free. My good friend and mechanic told me that they would screw it up and to bring it down on a Friday and we both spent between three to four hours fitting it with the car on a ramp. I couldn't believe the amount of time it took to get it to fit snugly. We started on the back box, to ensure the clearance over the rear axle. Then middle pipe, flex and onto the four branch. The front pipe was cut to fit and instead of welding I have a massive clamp. Similar to a scoffold clamp to hold it all together. Fits well and never a problem. I even had some power flex mounts but ended up going standard. From previous experience you think, exhaust 30 mins, done! You can't get better than a quick fit fitter. On this occasion was never so glad I took the time. Couldn't believe the time it took. We both left his garage well after five on a Fridaty which for my mechanic is unheard of. OCD kicking in. My car originally had a custom stainless steel back box installed in Birmingham, brilliant but deafening. The Jetex, if you take the time does fit well, but requires a lot of movement and tweaking to fit correctly.
