good morning everyone.
my roccos developing an issue with the speedo where the needle dosent seem to work unless im doing 30mph, seems like its stuck at 0 then doing 30 or more unsticks it so it starts reading the speed.
if i slow down it will read the the full range back to zero and may or may not stick again depending on how long i let it set still.
its rapidly becoming very annoying!!
if i tap the speedo while doing 20 or so the needle will start reading so i dont think its speedo cable related but somthing sticking inside the clocks.
has anyone else had this issue before? can it be fixed?
i do have a spare clock so maybe some parts could be reused from that?

I would check the speedo cable is pushed all the way in at the back of the clocks and cable is not on to much of an angle, you should be able to get your hand up behind the dash from underneath?

ahh stupid clocks, i did try making sure its plugged on both ends securely and its taking the straightest path which seemed ot improve it but its still doing it and getting stuck at 0mph unless i do more than 20mph.
its really weird

surely if its improved it a bit that could be the issue. if the inside of the speedo cable is gunked up a bit it could cause the issue. maybe try flushing it through with gt-85 or something maybe?

Try the gentle tap with your hand on top of the dash when the needle is stuck to see if that frees it up.

this frees it up every time but as soon as you stop the problem repeats.

i think your right steve its time for a new speedo cable. some of the insulation under the bonnet has rubbed off exposing the metal innards of the cable so i wouldn't be surprised if water and grot has got in there

Have you taken it out and poured oil down it?

I used to have a sticky speedo at low speeds but once a year I take it off and oil it and the problem is cured.

As for the worn bits, I find that self fusing tape is pretty good, just make sure the outside is free from any grot.

Oh dear now it's stopped working altogether!
Gonna take it out tomorrow to see what's gone wrong, I'm pretty certain the problem is at the clocks end

ok it would seem the inner and outer cable has departed from the clippy bit that pushes onto the speedo.
no idea how that happened but that explains why it doesnt work
