my new scirocco

Hi guys recently brought this off a family friend. He wasn't using it and i fancied something to tinker with over the winter so made him an offer and it was mine. 1991 mk2 scirocco gt2 in white, 58k on the clock and i believe im the third owner. Been garaged most of its life and has quite abit of money spent on it before so all i need to do is give it a clean and get it looking good.
its on coilovers and has stainless exhaust on it already so pretty happy with that. new wheels (i don't really like the ronals) and abit lower is the plan
ideally I need a drivers door + wing as their both damaged so on the look out for those.
spent the past 5 years messing about with polos so this is abit different for me, if anyone has any tips and knows any common faults, please let me know that'd be greatly appreciated
updates will be happening soon, parts have already been ordered
cheers Dan

Welcome!
The tech sections and the project threads worth a good read through when you can.
A nice starting point and the Ronals will be eminently sellable if you do decide to shift them on.

Hello DanHMk2,
Car looks good
Lots of info on here about what to watch out for, 1 thing I would check and keep a close eye on is the fuel filler neck, for the Mk2 they are difficult to get hold off and expensive so if you can remove yours and repaint and treat/protect it, get a hose up in the wheel arch at the beginning and end of winter as it's a great mud trap just above the filler neck.
Regular checking/treating and cleaning will make sure the filler neck will last for many years.

So ordered ordered a few bits for this..
Tailgate lock seal
'Scirocco' sticker to go across the rear window
Speaker grills front and rear as all four were missing!
Small blue clips for the rear badges as when I took them off all of the broke
Front and rear black floor matts
Nothing exciting i know! But some better photos will be coming tomorrow.
Still looking for a drivers side door and wing so if anyone knows of any for sale let me know! Also the ronals will be for sale so if anyone would like to make a purchase (will be cheap) let me know before i advertise them to the public !
Cheers

Where are you based??
I have a pair of decent wings and probably a drivers door too. Would need to be collected from near Glasgow though.
Ben.

Tailgate seal - Note sure there is a Rocco out there that hasn't had that replaced!
I'd be interested in the ronals. Pm me a price you are thinking of. Cheers.
Looking forward to seeing the pics...

So finally got this out the garage and starting doing some bits here and there. engine wasn't running great and i think it was mainly due to it just being sat for quite a while... so started with the basics, cleaned the carb out (couldn't believe how much crap was coming out of it), fresh fuel, new fuel filter, plugs + leads and a fresh battery and it now runs like a dream. Noticed theres a considerably large coolant leaking coming from the thermostat housing/flange o ring so that'll be next on the list along with a coolant flush/change.
some photos..

(ignore the yellow tape on the back, just keeping the wholes covered from where i've removed the badges)
and the damage to the front door/wing..

having a white car is so satisfying haha.
wheels will be for sale soon to make way for something nice and shiny. (pm me if you're interested, get them cheap before i advertise them properly).
hopefully get some more work done next week.. next on the to do list is to clean up inner arches/paint them, clean and grease coilovers (and wind all the way down

), new lower arms/ball joins and we'll see where it goes from there.
cheers

Bit of progress, managed to get hold of a decent door and wing so they've already been taken to the body shop and are getting painted. Sold the ronals and managed to get hold of some roll about bbs ra's for the time being.
Hopefully should have some pictures of it all back together soon
