Battery Terminal Clamp - Unidentified Connector

I've noticed that the negative battery terminal clamp on my Mk2 has a spade-type male terminal as part of it, but there isn't any wire in the vicinity to connect to it. The only wires are the braided copper battery wire and two thinner wires with light brown insulation that are held to the terminal clamp via a loop connection that the tightening bolt passes through.

This is bugging me, as I've only just noticed it and it doesn't look right. The positive terminal also has the same spade connector, but there is a red wire connected to this (presumably for my alarm).

Does anyone else have this spade connection on the negative battery clamp?

Yeah it's a standard thing, both my Scircco and Golf has the connector, you could push it in a little if it's annoying you?

Thanks guys - looks like it was a bit of forward thinking by VW for adding future electrical add-on. I was just concerned in case something was supposed to be connected to it. Now I know this, I'm going to leave it alone.

on the mk2 golf there are more of these on the tracks of the rear light clusters so you can fit tow bar electrics with female spade connectors rather than scotch locking the life out of the loom like so many 80`s sparkies did.
