Scirocco Register

Hello all,

Last week I moved to Germany to start a new job. I will be staying on this forum as its a friendly, informative place.

I have of course taken my dearly beloved with me and after driving from Calais, through Belgium and down into South West Germany, she only had a 1/2 hour break and had a heavy load in the boot. I only filled up once. She struggled on the Autobahn when it was uphill as with a heavy load in the boot, a hill and a speed limit of about 80 she was gonna struggle, but we both made it. Just now waiting to register her and have a German MOT (British one in July is not good enough!!) then I can register, get insurance and she can use the roads she was built to use!!

Congratulations on your move to Germany and new job

I lived in the South of Germany in the early 1980's when the Scirocco mk2 was new to the market and have visited there on holiday several times since then ... last was in 2012.

Have fun driving the roads over there and hopefully you will see a few mk1 & mk2 Sciroccos, they are a rare site these days, but exist on the roads there mainly in the spring/summer months

At least you got there with no troubles and you had a full load. Be careful on the Autobahn especially the fast lane. If driving at night you cannot hear the car but only see a blip passing on the fast lane. The German MOT is tight, if your car is kept well, emissions, balanced brakes you should have no problems. They use the same testing gear and test ramps as the MOT in Northern Ireland. Once passed you should feel reassured your car is in good nick. I'm sure your aware of the Safety triangle, first aid kit and breakdown cover ect. I've spent the last twenty years travelling to Southern Germany. I spend about two months a year there. On my holidays this year I spotted Two Sciroccos during a four week visit, both in very good condition. In the last five years I have spotted four in total. They are regarded by most people in Southern Germany as boy racer cars and are in the same league as the Manta Berlanta brigade. Southern Germany is a great place to live.
Just remember to ask for a helles, prefererably an Augustiner and die rechnung bite and you can't go far wrong. Public transport is brilliant, 80 euros for a monthly ticket in the region and valid for all trams, trains and buses which are always on time. Keep the car for difficult to get to places and enjoy yourself!

Cheers guys for the messages. It is a really nice place to live. Haven't seen any Scirocco's but quite a few Golfs and classic Mercs!! Yeah I have everything I think I need for German roads but just waiting for the MOT and Registration to be done so I can then insure it. I can't wait to drive her around and get used to the roads, however they are quite lethal drivers!!

Grew up in Germamy, parents still live there, intention was 25 yrs ago to go back after a 1-yr student exchange programme, but then decided ti stay in UK.

Interesting how many links British people have to Germany. Yeah I speak it, still have some vocab etc to work on but understand most of the time :).

Yeah I saw that, unfortunately quite a few hours away from me but I am hoping to go to some meets here
