I have factory bronze tints on my mk1. I know the USA got green tints but did any UK cars get them too?

I think on the Mk2 it was somewhat dependent on the body colour. They used Green, Bronze and Blue tints. Not sure on the Mk1.

I used to order new stock when I worked for a VW dealer in the early 80's and one of the few things that wasn't a choice was the tint, although IIRC it was only fitted to Storm, GTL and GTX the years i was involved 83-85

According to the brochures, pretty much every mk1 from around 1977 had bronze tinted glass. The exception was the GTI.

Clear glass for the GTI ?

Yes, Mk2 GTI also had clear glass for some reason.

Green glass was a optional extra on the early cars which came with clear glass. My 76 has it and it was listed as a factory option.
My guess clear and green were dropped when the gls came out and bronze was standard fit.

My car had a couple of bits missing and it has proved difficult to get, I have had to source it from the states.

I remember seeing a black TS with green tint glass here in the UK.. so that was pre 77
