Oil pressure switch problems.

Been trying to get my car ready for Biggar on Sunday but I had a oil leak problem.
I thought I had solved it when I noticed that oil was coming out the end of the oil pressure switch.
Off I went to my nearest Euro Car Parts depot and picked up a new switch.
Put my new switch in and there is no oil coming out of the end.
NOW I have a flashing oil warning light on my dash display which I didn't have before.
What the h--l have I done wrong, apart from using Euro Car Parts ????????
I don't fancy a 140 mile round trip to Biggar with a flashing oil warning light.
On Googling the number on the old switch it directs me to the vw Heritage page for .........Oil pressure switches including the MK2 Scirocco 1984-92, so as I never had any flashing lights with this one in I assume it is the right one.
I am going to remove the new one as there is a part No on it as well and check what it is.
Any advice is appreciated.
Mean while 24mm socket back out and do a swap, new out - old back in.
Also posting this on the SciroccoUK.

I will have some spares if you want to try a different one.
There are different pressure ratings so it may be that ecp have just supplied you with the wrong one.
Feel free to head over if you want.
Ben.

Hi Ben.
Was thinking along the same lines re pressure.
The old one (leaking) Has VW AUDI 0.15 - 0.45 on it plus what looks like a part NO 056919081C - 7D.
All the new (flashing one) has on it is 1.4 +/- 0.15 bar.
I played about with them again but still get the flashing light when I put the new one in.
I'll give them a phone in the morning and find what the score is and get back to you.

Sounds like they've given you the one for using with an oil pressure guage, the Scirocco sender 056919081C isn't used for that it is a low pressure warning sender.
If you have the high pressure sender the light flashes continuously.
Edit. I assume you are talking about the one on the side of the head?

You can go by the colour of the switch,
White one (higher pressure rating) on top of oil filter.
Blue or some times black (lower pressure) at the side of the head.
Lower pressure switch at the side of the head.

Higher pressure switch above oil filter.

Yip Colin and mark1gls, the one on the right hand side of the block viewed from the front of the car.
^^^^^^^^^^^ !!!!!!! Edited as my left and right got mixed up !!!!!! It's an age thing.
The new one is black but appears to be of the high pressure variety.
I've come to the conclusion it is all down to pressure and I hope they have the lower pressure one in stock to save me a trip to the Big Smoke as I hate driving in Glasgow.
I still have Ben to pull me out a hole (again) if required.

If euro don't have it just head over.
You still got my number? Give me a ring and I'll make sure I'm about.
Ben.

From memory the blue one is on the side of the head and the white one on top of the oil filter.
Replaced my white one a couple of months ago as it was leaking, replaced with this:

The light comes on when the circuit is closed. probably the wrong sender switch supplied or its a case of the earth strap on the head....
As long as you see oil being thrown about in the rocker cover then you have oil pressure. You would know within minutes if you had no pressure as your engine would be giving you hints in the form or knocks and rattles. If the pressure was ok before the sender change then its probably ok now.
