Right so my tappets are noisy as hell when she's cold... annoying to say the least. I've tried a flush and it made no difference so it's time for new... so my question is obviously where can I find the parts needed to replace them? They're hydraulic on my 89 GT (webber) by the way.
I've tried searching VW heritage and come up short.
Any other associated parts I should also consider upgrading why I'm at it?
Cheers all.

Few listed on ebay.

Vw heritage.

The other option is take out them and clean the old oil out of them, straight forward job to do but you must fit them in the same place you removed them.
You can brake them down to this and clean them out.
Press the ball in and squeeze the old oil out
Leave them so soak in some "Gunk" engine degreaser over night.
Then reoil them by pouring some oil into the tappet and pressing the ball in while squeezing the tappet to suck the oil in.
There is a few guides on you-tube and the web. Some mentioned dismantling the tappet to remove the ball and spring but I could not on mine as you can see there is a little collar holding it all together.
You tube link but I could not take mine all apart.

Other things to upgrade???
Rubber rocker cover gasket?
New cam belt and tensioner as you have to remove it the get the cam out, make sure you undo the caps in the right order or you can bend the cam shaft, there is a guide in the Haynes manual

Thanks for a very thorough reply! How I've missed them from vw heritage i dont know haha
The ones listed are for 8v gti mine being on a carburettor shouldn't make a difference should it? I'll probably plump for a full new set, already don't the rubber gasket and new belt and tensioner around 12 months ago
