Running with no sound deadening

Post by goaferboy »

So I finally got round to taking off all the old, nasty sound deadening from under the bonnet. I'll probably replace it eventually, but it's currently on the "nice to have, but other things take priority" list.

So my question is, is it OK to run the Scirocco without sound deadening? I assume the heat from the engine won't damage the now exposed bonnet, since there was already exposed areas?

Just wanted to check really, as I'm a proper worryer!

I've noticed that mk2 bonnets commonly warp slightly with age. If you look at the front, you'll notice that a lot have a gentle arc from side to side, highest in the middle. The sound insulation is just that, it has no heat-repelling properties - you probably wouldn't want heat to be contained in the engine bay any more than necessary.

For those who do want to place the Bonnet lining.

As of today the sets can be ordered at Rust Republic.

Just send an Email to Anthony at:

info@rustrepublic.co.uk

Tell him what you want/need and he will get back to you.

Greetings, Joost

Cheers for the help guys. I am tempted by the new lining, but no spare money at the moment!

in the nearly 4years of having mine, ive never had any sound deadening as it all crumbled away. my car is itself pretty loud when driving, but was thinking going the route of a underlay under all the carpet.

Removing mine hasn't made any noticeable difference to sound, both in and out of the car. Could be because it was basically powder before I removed it though.

Hi all, bought these from Joost - Blueshark. Looks great but I had a lot of prep work on the bonnet before I fitted them. It is a renovation job - almost complete. Thank £££££££££!
