Rear Window Decal

Post by goaferboy »

Not sure if this should be in the for sale section or not, but I figured here was the best place for now, since I'm not actually selling any yet, just prototyping/gauging interest/looking for feedback.

My work has recently got into signmaking, and as a result, I now have access to a vinyl plotter. This basically means I can make whatever stickers I want, both cut vinyl and printed stickers. I'm looking at doing some of the rear window decals as below and have made a first draft, which I'll test fit on my Scirocco when I next get a chance.

I was just wondering if anyone else on here would want one? I can get away with testing on scrap material at work, but I would need to order material if I was to make a run of them. I'd be looking at charging about £10-£15 delivered for each. The spec would be:

White 5 year rated vinyl
Application tape for easy fitting (like the vinyl stickers at shows)
Can go on the inside or outside of the glass. People will have to let me know when ordering.

I'd need a minimum order of 5 to cover materials etc. I can also make custom vinyls (for anywhere on the car, as long as it's a reasonably flat surface and not stupidly huge), so I'm happy to take orders for that and count it towards the minimum number, as long as it's using the same white vinyl as the rear window decal. I may be able to print on the stickers at a later date, but I'm going to rule it out for now until I can get ink prices sorted etc.

The design:

I based it on This Design and it's designed to fit 5mm from the window rubber/spoiler on each edge. It curves down 10mm to match the measurements I took from my car. I'll give it a trial fit when I get a chance to make a prototype.

So yeah, any feedback? Does it look right? Is £10-£15 fair? Anyone actually want one? I'm happy to keep amending and tinkering until I get it right, as I'm fussy and wouldn't want a shoddy job on my own car.

There are a few suppliers already doing these on eBay, so I'd take a look there to gauge pricing and see whether it's worth your while.

...or there used to be, but I can't find one at the moment. Brunty used to do them, too.

I think you'd be better off reproducing the side decals. Someone on here did some Kamei ones and they looked fantastic. Lots of other ones to choose from including US "snake" logo.

I used to sell these as well.

Your price sounds good, I charged €.16,00 then.

Had 50 made about 10 years ago and still have a few left.

You are talking about white but the original colour is silver and for the inside only

Because the lettering is quit narrow if you use it on the outside it will damage easily when washing the car.

Whatever you decide good luck with the business.
