leaky sunroof mk2

Good evening all - my first post.

I have a leaky sunroof - I can see ithe black seal surrounding it isn't in the best condition. I've checked the front 2 drainage channels they are clear. I have read on here that there are 2 other channels but you need to remove the sunroof to get to them. So here's the problem. ... I can wind the sunroof back - but I can't see any way of removing it.

Unfortunately I can't tilt it up because the sun roof arm lifters were so rusty they disintegrated!

So - is there a way of taking the sunroof out, without first buying a pair of sunroof arm lifters to the tune of £40-60? I don't particularly want to tilt the sunroof!

Thanks in advance

Gemma.

look inside the the rear arch at the back and you should see a white piece of hose sticking out either side.
on mine its just inside the bodykit, i clean them out by blowing them through with an air line from where they come out of the car.
it doesn't need a lot of pressure otherwise you could blow the pipe right off the sunroof.
if you haven't got access to an airline take the car to local garage who should be able to assist you.
after you have done it then pour water back over the sunroof to check its fixed the leak.

If you can slide the sunroof back you should be able to remove it. There is a guide in the haynes manual and a couple on the web.
Ill try and find a guide for you.

Found this.

Looking at the link you may not be able to remove it if you can tilt the roof? Are you turning the handle the opposite way to sliding it back?
I've only ever removed a sunroof from a Mk2 golf as they are the same sun roof but only slide back and don't tilt. With the Mk2 Golf you slide it back a little and unclip the inner panel then you get access to the screw etc holding it in...

The Haynes procedure requires you to tilt it first to remove the panel. I think it is possible if your roof doesn't tilt, but it's a lot more difficult.

With the sunroof open, you could try pouring some water carefully around inside to see which drains are flowing freely

I managed to tilt the sunroof -there was a screw missing to hold the sunroof down to the mechanism underneath (which explained why the sunroof hilariously flew up & down when closing the car doors). To cut a long story short the thing seems now to have come off the runners - I can't get out to go back & forth now! On the plus side it will tilt up so I think need to wait for a nice day to take it all apart.

Thanks
