Scirocco Register

Ive just fitted a rubber rocker cover seal, but its still leaking abit from the back stud by the cambelt. Ive tighten the nuts so thats not the problem. Has anybody had this problem? ??

I had that problem. I had over tightened the nuts, check Haynes manual but I think there only 7nm or something like that.

Do you have the cork gasket or the upgraded rubber one?

Fitted a rubber one.

If thats the case foes that mean i need to get a new one?

I had cork then. I just loosened them off a bit and then nipped em up.

If you fitted the rubber one you have to replace the studs (It should come with these. The original ones have a shoulder so wont make a proper seal with the rubber type. You can't really over tighten to rubber ones if you've fitted the new studs.

Yeah ive fitted the new studs but still leaking, its only a drop of oil but still want to sort it

Might be worth;
- Taking it off and making sure they're all seated correctly
- Looking at both sites of the gasket and the metal eyelets to see if there is anything there that could stop it making a seal
- Ensuring the mating surface of the rocker cover it clean, no old gasket material or sealant
- Putting a flat edge on the mating surface of the rocker cover to see if it's warped

Don't use any sealant on them. It breaks off and ends up blocking oil paths.

I have the exact same issue, leaking from the rear drivers side bolt,seems to actually come out of the bolt hole itself. I am now on my 2nd rubber gasket, this time it is from vw heritage so no scrimping. I also have brand new socket head m6x25mm bolts for the 2 long holes on the cam wheel side and brand new m6x20mm for the others. its driving me mad. ive tried with sealant, without sealant, slightly loosening the bolts, tightening them up properly, im nearing a dead end. it just wont seal! I have a plan to try later though, involving a can of fizzy pop!ill report back if it remotely works! either that or I might try sealant on the bolt itself.

I solved my leak in that corner by replacing the rocker cover, there was a very slight bend in the rocker cover.

I fitted a rebuilt engine in my golf and I was getting the oil leak and tried several times to stop it so I took my rocker cover off my old engine and bolted it on and the problem is fix.
I did have one spare which I knew was straight and did not leak before so I hope you have the same luck if you replace yours, you just need to make sure the replacement one is straight and leak free...

change the studs out for cap head bolts aswell.
