Scirocco Register

Tied myself up in knots today with the fuel pump wiring in the Storm. Ran a jumper directly from the the fuse box (where the relay plugs in) to the pump, connected the battery and fuel pump is alive.

Power to fuse box checks out ok, have tried three different relays that i know are ok so started to investigate to see if all is plugged in as its should be. Seems it is not- somebody's been there before. I've been trying to trace with the aid of the workshop manual where everything should be, but started losing the plot a bit so any help would be great.

This correct? Wiring diagram tells me that feed for cold start, WUR and fuel pump meet at the same connector. Then are powered by a green/black wire (?). Where does this power wire come from?



Is this right above for the yellow/red wire (fuel pump live) and the double white/reds (cold start/WUR). If so, what on earth plugs into arrowed and where does it come from?

If its completely wrong then equally i'd like to know!

If someone could walk me through this simply i'd be very grateful and owe you a beer or two.

The relay should be one that has its own fuse on the top.

Red with Yellow Tracer - goes to Electric fuel pump.
Red with White Tracer - one goes to Warm-up Valve, the other goes to Auxiliary Air Valve.

The feed wire for this connector is Black with Green Tracer, 1.5mm running from Pin A8 on the back of the fusebox.

Pin A8 is hardwired through the fusebox to Relay Terminal L14 on the front of the fusebox. When the fuel pump relay is energised, power flows from Relay Terminal L13 through the integral fuel pump relay fuse to Terminal L14, thence through the Black with Green Tracer wire to the connector you have arrowed.

Red/Black wires connect as follows:
From Pin D15 - two wires, one to the Rev Counter and the other to the Gearshift Indicator Control Unit.
From Pin A16 - single wire to a connector, single in engine compartment right, thence to the brake light switch.
From Pin G1 - single wire to the Radiator Fan Thermo Switch.
From Pin C19 - single wire to the coil.
From Terminal 50 on the Ignition Switch - thick single wire in to a connector with two wires out - thick single wire continues into engine compartment to a connector near master cylinder and thence to the starter, thin single wire runs to another connector with two thinner wires out, one running to the Cold Start Valve, the other to the Thermo Time Switch.

If those are all connected, then I shouldn't worry about the loose wire.

Pete you are a legend! suffice to say I have been here, T-shirt and everything.... my problem was only found when I noticed charring at pin A8 (yellow connector from memory) it turned out the pin A8 in the fuse box had died and a new fuse box sorted the problem.

I had originaly sourced a new connector block as I thought that to be the problem lay there but thank the lord it wasn't as I really wouldn't like to transfer all them wires over.

I shall attempt to clear things up. I may come back to you further sir. Probably tearing my hair out.

Craig- Looks like i will have to fit a new connector there, i have signs of charring on the connector itself so will check terminals too. Luckily i have another couple of boxes so will check the best one. Likely that black/green feed going awol is linked to charring?

edit: so from the back of the connector at the slot that connects to pin A8 there should be a black/green wire exiting the block connector with a spade on the end of it? And thats the headlamp harness that plugs in at connector A?

Yes, and it should be the same thickness as the red/yellow wire to the fuel pump.

Pin A2 - blue/red wire to connector - doesn't go anywhere
Pin A4 - blue wire to alternator
Pin A3 - blue/green wire to Pin A5
Pin A6 - black/white wire to connector, exits same side to front left turn signal bulb
Pin A7 - red wire to horn
Pin A8 - black/green wire to fuel pump connector
Pin A9 - grey/black wire to side light bulb, left
Pin A11 - black/yellow wire to horn
Pin A14 - red/yellow wire to connector then to brake light switch
Pin A15 - black wire to connector then to reversing light switch
Pin A16 - red/black wire to connector then to brake light switch
Pin A17 - black/grey wire to connector then to reversing light switch
Pin A18 - white/black wire to main beam headlight bulb, left
Pin A19 - yellow/black wire to headlight bulb, left

Finally had time to look at the Storm and remembered to print this thread. I can report that there is now power to the fuel pump.

sweet. funnily,I took the fusebox out of the MK2 gti I am currently stripping and i couldn't resist a look at the A8 pin, sure enough you could see light scorching, laughing aside this could actually be quite a dangerous fault.

About to attack the wiring in mine. Essential thread.
