I hope you chaps can help with a couple of questions.
I have managed to source some aluminium trims for the roof flange/gutter to replace the horribly discoloured plastic ones, one side seems to hold on correctly but the right side will not stay in place and keeps coming off. Has anyone had this problem? I was thinking of trying to glue it in place with Sikaflex or similar. What do you think?
The other thing is the bumpers. Both have faded quite badly, an application of 'back to black' and similar products makes the front not too bad but the back is still not right. Do the more expensive trim and tyre type treatments really give better results?

With the gutter trim if you look along the roof seam there may be hole at each end, with my trim it is sqashed/dented in to the holes to stop it popping off. I have seen them pop riveted on but you do see the pop rivet.
I had chrome trim as standard so check you have the little holes and you may need to bend the trim very carefully to the right shape but be carful you don't want to bend it to much in case it creases.

As well as the back-to-black treatments, you can also get good results from a heatgun (or possibly a very hot hairdryer) on a clean bumper. Worth a try.

The early MK1s had metal gutter trim and this is actually held in place with a tiny self-tapper at either end - these trims are slightly longer than on the later cars, which had chrome-effect plastic - and those ones just grip in place.

Plastic bumpers, I've had good results from using this stuff.

Any chrome I always buff with a little brasso, and as for plastic trim, I have had good results with a heat gun, I would say it's semi-perminate, it lasts a good 6-12 months but is also aided by back to black, unfortunately they are all pretty similar in result in my experience but some of the more expensive ones May last a little longer.

I would suggest a heat gun and back to black should give you pretty good results

I am pretty sure there are no holes in the trim or the gutter flange, but will check at the weekend
