DIY drive flange removal tool, cost Zero!

I made this tool to remove my drive flanges as both flange oil seals were leaking.
The manual gives a picture of the VW tool.
I made this for free from stuff in the shed:

100mm Length of 25mm angle iron (you could use flat plate instead but I had this lying around).
150mm (can be shorter but I had thsi in the shed)M10 threaded rod and two M10 nuts
2 x 75mm M8 bolts and M8 nuts

Drilled M10 hole at 50mm centre on centre line
M8 holes are on centre line with the centre 6mm in from end of metal.
( you may need to file the hole a little to allow for the thread on the rod and the bolts)

The M10 rod can be hand screwed into the drive flange centre with an M10 nut loosely screwed onto it.
Place the angle iron on with the M8 bolts in place with their nut loosely done and screw the M8 bolts into the flange bolt holes (you need to ensure the M10 nut on the threaded rod is not stopping the M8 bolts being screwed in).

Tighten (finger tight will do) the M8 nut so the bolts act like fixed legs.
Put the other M10 nut on the thread above the angle iron.
When you tighten the m10 nut on the top it will compress the flange aginst its spring and allow the snap ring to be removed.
To remove use the M10 nut under the angle iron to lift the flange out

You could weld up something similar but this allowed me to remove and replace the flange and importantly makes the snap ring removal easier.

Hope this helps someone.

good idea, to buy the parts to make that tool shouldnt be more than a tenner too.
would be a good idea to start a thread on tips n tricks to easily find out how to do things like this without the question being repeated some time in the future.
