If the adjustable side track rod is seized how are they going to remove it? Just a thought.... Heat works well if all else fails to losen it.

New ones are the same as Mk1 golf or even look for the Mk1 Golf cabriolet as lot of stuff is the same as they ran both models at the same time.

Any decent motor factors should be able to get one for you or try these.

Do you have 2 adjustable track rods or just the one side? (as it came out of the factory)

Apparently it's just the one size that's adjustable. It's seized on and I imagine that can remove it, but it would be destroyed in the process meaning they would have to fit a new one there and then. Where as it's cheaper if i replace it myself and just get the tracking done (which was all I wanted to do in first place)
Thank you for the links :)

You could replace the whole track rod if it's really stuck on, you do need a thin spanner to hold the locking nut at the steering rack end.
Just make sure you follow the measurements in the haynes manual for the length of the track rod and track rod end.

If you do replace the track rods make sure the big rubber washer on the track rod which the steering rack boot fits over is the same size, I fitted a new rack and track rods a couple of years ago and I kept going through steering rack boots as they would split at the ends on the track rods after about 9 months, I looked at my old track rods and they was slightly smaller in diameter so I slid them off and changed them it is now easier to fit new boots as I don't have to stretch them so much to fit over the washer.
