Hey everyone,

Do you guys think it's worth getting the wax oiled/undersealed for the winter. The car is used daily and I think it would be worth getting the chassis coated over and the seals too... what are your thoughts? Do you guys get your cars done too?

I waxoyl my car (the Mk1 Golf) as it's a daily drive but not really a fan of the black underseal as rust/damage can hide underneath it and rust away.
What year is your car as VW did do a good job with later cars with the rubbery sealer they used under the car and it lasts well as long as there is no damage to it.
You may be a little late to waxoyl it your self as you really need a nice sunny warm day to spray the stuff on and it's best to give it a good clean/wash underneath first and you do get wet lying on the floor with a bush and hose pipe....
Make sure you wash/clean and rub your fingers around the lip inside the rear arch as mud sits there (watch out for sharp screws etc if you have the body kit fitted) and while you have the hose pipe in there wash off the fuel filler neck as mud also sits on top of it, the rest of the car is usually pretty good for mud traps.

The year is 88. I had a look underneath not long ago and overall it seemed in pretty good nick under there. Will bear the info in mind. Thanks for the tips Mark :)

My Golf is an 88 so your car should have the same sort of under body protection as my car so it should be good stuff.
Forgot to add make sure you give the underneath a good clean and check over after the winter and salt has gone from the roads as it's easier to treat a little rusty patch before it eats away to much metal.

Cool thanks mate... yeah I have no other car so have to use it and I enjoy using the car, especially taking her out on Xmas day for a little drive too!!

Another quick question - which brand is the best to buy for both wax oiling and undersealing? The undersealing one needs to be a rubber based one as my seals are the later model

I'm pretty sure there's a clear wax oil you can buy somewhere?

Thanks buddy... I have it all done and sorted... I took it to a garage as I don't have anything to lift it sufficiently off the ground and to my surprise I still have a load of Underseal and the Chassis has wax oyl in them... However got it all touched up and got the fuel filler neck done too!!

Glad you got is sorted and now it should be ready for the winter and salty roads. VW did do a good job on waxoyling there cars from the mid 80's onwards so not a really surprise there is some still on the car and you will find lots around the engine bay unless it's been cleaned off.
