Oil Pump Change

I have a 1.6 Injection EG engine that the oil light comes on at tick over when hot.
It goes away quick enough when the engine is revved, and it was slightly improved with an oil change. But.....
I'm told that fitting a new oil pump is a straightforward exercise and can easily be accomplished with the engine in the car.
Is this the case? anyone who has done this care to comment on difficulty?
Thanks
Russ

In theory
Drain Oil
Sump Off
Remove old pump
Fit new pump
Sump on
New oil in
Done....
In reality the bolts holding the sump on that are closest to the gearbox are a bit of a pig to get in and out with the gearbox attached to the engine.

I did MACCs oil pump this year and was easy enough to do.
Remember to fill the pump with oil before fitting to prime it.
You might as well get a new sump gasket too as that will fall apart when you take the sump off

Make sure that the oil pump you get has a new plastic baffle with it, as the old one will be brittle and is quite likely to break when you try to remove it from the old pump.

It's the 2 bolts near the gearbox which are a really pain to get back in straight if not you will strip the thread as the bolts are screwed in to aluminium.
I found trying to fit them 1st then fit the other bolts after worked for me but it still took some time to get the in straight as they kept trying to go in on an angle I screwed them in with out the sump fitted to check the angle 1st then tried it with the sump, they screw in easy by hand (I have small hands so I could get my fingers in there) so if it's getting hard to screw them in they are not going in straight so remove and try again. It did take a few attempts to get it right.

out of curiosity is there a pump that fits our cars from the 2 litre variety that can increase flow/ pump capacity?
im sure someone pointed out before a mod to fit uprated oil pumps?
or would too much oil pressure be a bad thing?

I don't think there is any thing wrong with the normal oil pump it seems to be able to pump enough oil around the engine, as the saying goes, "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
May be if you was building a track day car there may be advantages of a bigger oil pump?

The oil pump doesn't create oil pressure, it just provides volume, the clearances provide the oil pressure, So i wouldn't condemn the pump. Sounds like a high millage engine. moving to a 20w 50 might stop this.
