Hi, are people still swapping the flange between the carb and hedgehog?
The reason why I ask is that I've managed to aquire some ally plates, but can't find the thread.
Know about the freezing effect but some people went for it and I could do with off loading them.

This for a 1.8 with peirburg carb?

i thought shaving the hegdehog was a better way of doing it as then you have a little bit of heat when you need it.

I think there is some confusion here.

Have you got the flange that the carb is mounted on, but made of aluminum.

OR

A plate that covers the hole that the manifold heater (hedgehog) sits in.


A picture of what you are selling, and also maybe posting it in the for sale section, would be helpful.

If you have the carb flange but made from aluminium then id be interested in one. Although I would assume you'd then need a gasket for both sides no?

Yes, you do. I made one a while ago and used a cereal box cut to shape. Not ideal but did the job just fine.

An old car innertube would be better, as it would also stop some of the manifold heat getting to the carb.

i tried the car inner tube and all it did was fall apart and got sucked into parts of the carb that it shouldnt have.
the cereal box gasket works a treat though.

I think you'll need it more than 9mm thick and could probably only get one out of it.

Would be interesting to make one that can bolt to the manifold straight to a weber fitting. That would save a lot of hassle...also one less gasket to worry about.

i was planning to make something like that plus thinner so you dont have to space the bracket on the front of the air box

Yeah, it could probably come down enough to meet the original fixing point...Plus shorter intake = more power? haha

Certainly one less thing to go wrong!

20mm aluminum is the right thickness to bolt directly between the manifold and the carb and keep the standard front airbox mount.
It is also deep enough to hide Allan head bolts inside the adapter otherwise they do interfere with the base of the carb.

the guy(mark i think) from trimsport said he would look into mass producing an aluminium replacement flange if i could provide him with a cad drawing.
however i would have to remove my flange to get the sizes plus i have no idea how to use cad and to top it off i dont have thew contact details for mark any more.
if i could get my alluminium flange to him maybe one of his cnc guys could make a drawing of it and start mass producing?
after all this flange pretty much goes on any carb 1.6-1.8 vw
plus i think his envolvement would make it cheaper to produce en mass than trying to make one offs for ourselves.
