It's got to go.

Post by Duncan »

OK, so I have decided I'm not ever going to finish my Mk2, as I've too many other things that have also been in the pipeline or too many years. I thought I had a friend lined up to buy but it's fallen though.

I think the fact that it's basically a jigsaw puzzle (rolling shell and boxes of parts) may not have helped, plus its a basic 1.6 carb version, with a non factory sunroof, and a little rust in the wheelarches.

I'm just posting this for now, as I need to decide whether to sell as parts, since some of them are brand new and it appears at least one (stainless filler neck) is probably worth more than the car as a whole.

There gotta be someone out there that will take it off your hands. It sounds like a fundamentally great project.

Pop up some pictures of what the cars like and we will have a better idea of what you have.

OK. Sounds an idea.

It's going to take me a bit of time to get photos (unless I can get the guy who was thinking of buying to send me the ones he took) as I'm busy this weekend.

However, to give you an idea, its a Mk2 GT (1.6 carb). C reg. Its a rolling shell at present as I stripped it to do the rust in the rear wheel arch (hidden by the bodykit). Its only really the lip but needs to be done to stop it getting worse. The place where the fuel filler strap fixes on in the other arch also needs some work as they all do. Drivers door is a different colour as the old one was rusty. It also could do with adjusting as it doesn't fit as nicely as the other side. It has an aftermarket sunroof and has other dings scratches and general wear plus the standard clutch cable bulkhead crack.

I have all of the bits, and have replaced quite a lot of running gear (shocks, front wheel bearings, braking system) though its been sat in the garage for sixteen years since then. I also rebuilt the bottom end of the engine because the reason I got it was I was told the big ends were noisy. They looked OK though, and found out when I put it back, that it's actually the tappets and they still need doing. Many bits were new.

I can't imagine its worth a lot, but the parts are. I noticed a stainless (well part stainless) filler neck on the bay of fleas recently went for a fair sum, and this has a full stainless one.

Well, I might have found someone to take it on. Via a different marques forum, but if it happens I'll be glad not to break it. I f he decides it's a goer I'll point him here anyway.

Unfortunately, another person has let me down. The shell will be going this week, but I will make the bits available. Just about everything but the shell as I desperately need the space. I'll list it in the breaking section unless that's against the rules.

Shame the other person has pulled out but at least the bits/spares may left another Scirocco live.
