The plastic snapped halfway up today so need to order a new one. Do they slide off or not? How do you replace them? Thanks

Warm up the plastic with a hairdryer before you push the new one on - or it will just snap on you.

Mine broke into bits when I removed the old one so be careful not to drop to much down the hole.

So the plastic bit has been on awhile now, but it never seemed to fit properly so when I pull the dipstick out, the whole plastic bit comes off too, this is because part of the old one is stuck down the pipe still, it isn't shattered or anything, it just seems where the rest has come off there is a circular part down there.... any ideas on how to remove this?

A metal coat-hanger. Snip a straight bit off and then bend the end over 1 or 2mm to form a small lip. Using 2 at once will probably be best.

Tak e a thread cutter of good size and turn it in and pull the remaining bit out .

I will try this method, however I am concerned that the plastic is attached to where it's sat in the pipe. Also I am also concerned about dropping it into the sump as this probably wouldn't be a good idea!! Any other suggestions or is the metal coat hanger etc the best method?

Take the metal pipe off first?

Put a twisted bit of tissue/kitchen role part way down the dip stick tube/ guide before you start and you can prise the remains of the old guide off with some mole grips then once removed pull out the tissue

it either screws in or just pulls out.
my mates audi tt one just pulled out but there is a small 10mm bolt holding onto the block on the tt.
im sure i yanked mine out by accident years ago.
the only other way to do it would be to remove the sump then push the broken plastic out through the bottem of the dipstick pipe so you can get all the pieces.
