Hey guys

So close to finishing the rocco is getting even more painful!

Can anyone give me an idea of a rough price for a respray, and where would people recommended. I'm down in the South East, Dartford Kent to be exact so anywhere near here would be ideal!

Anywhere between £300 and £3000. Depends on choice of paint, quality of finish required, quality of prep, condition of car to begin with etc. You'd be best actually going to see someone with the car so they can advise the amount of work they'd need to do.

Ah ok thanks, the issue I have at the moment is no mot or insurance so taking it to places is a trailer job which works out expensive... Think I'll just save until I have enough and then start looking haha thanks for the reply

Paint is always a difficult one because it depends on so many factors, the main one being the condition of the car when you take it to them and the amount of prep they need to do to get the finish you'd be happy with. A simple blow over with the same colour is cheap, a full interior & exterior respray with "perfect" finish is a LOT of work. Then you have to account for paint choice, factory colours at £30 a litre or fancy metallics/pearls/candy/flake etc at sometimes hundreds of £ per litre.

well its won't be far off a blow over (i think). And it is going to be the same colour (alpine white) but the side bump strips were removed by the last owner very badly and he sanded it down (the glue) for some reason... now there is metal on both sides so not sure how this will effect it.

first step get that metal covered in a primer or etch primer.. if you can do the prep yourself you will save a lot of money as said. it's worth getting some quotes from various companies and seeing their work

I would budget about £1500 for that sort of job as an ok finish but would cost more if after a fantastic paint finish.
But as already mentioned it depends a lot on how much prep is needed.
Is the glass in the car and can you remove the doors trims and glass, boot glass etc...

I would make sure you go and visit the painter, speak to them and look at their work before deciding. Ideally if you know someone that's had work done there before, have a look at their car and how it looks after a few months or so. If you pay £500 for a lash-over, you normally get what you pay for. Definitely don't make your decision on price alone, and don't assume all painters are pretty much the same just because they call themselves 'professionals'. This is just based on my experience of having cars painted in the past....

What he said, always check their work and make sure it an old car friendly place as many bodyshops used to doing newer cars with quick turn around that the owners wouldn't be a fussy. Also get an exact timescale, know a mate left in a great car with near full mot in for respray as it deserved to look perfect and still not got back 4years later and another guy i know waiting over 2years!!

What.... 4 years !!! either the garage is very slow or very very busy! I guess they have agreed to do there car when the garage gets some free time and a lower price but I could not wait that long.

Here's the car a couple of weeks before went into bodyshop, it's doc400sp of here


It needed a couple of small areas painted but the car is that nice he wanted it sitting perfect
Was told it would be done within 2weeks! Sat there rubbed down with panels off. Guy is just a messer

Old thread i Know but I've literally only just got down to getting it booked into the body shop!
Agreed the price of £1400 in the end with prep already done so not to bad i thought.

to add to this pricewise to help any future searchers looking for a respray. mine went off the bodyshop at the weekend.

it basically worked out that the respray alone to a better than oem finish is £1400 (exc vat) if it was just a simple matter of rubbing down a car with no prep work. this includes all shuts, underside bonnet, slam panel, bodykit etc. They did mention that the bodykit makes a big difference as there is a fair bit more prep and paint.

I am then paying another £1200 (exc vat) for all of the prep work which has a small allowance for any welding that may be found. I believe I have removed all rust and given a first pass on the filler so still needs a fair bit of shaping. The car is a mostly stripped rolling shell.

The bodyshop think it will be 11 solid days and with £400 for the paint that leaves £2200 in labour and materials. so at £200 a day, thats about £25 an hour. which seems pretty damn good to me.

he will offer a lifetime warranty for as long as the shop is open and i own the car. Any issues relating to their work (Ie. not my welding / filling) they will fix so i guess that means lacquer peeling, bubbles etc. I actually believe him too.

From looking around £1500 for a respray seems a great price.
