I going to try and transplant the bolsters and cover from a passenger seat to a drivers seat.

Anyone tried it before ?

Seen it done many times over the years, you can refit the covers inside out and the material will look brand new.

It's a common solution bud, only downside is that you will have the hole from the tilt handle to deal with if your changing the upper cover, as obviously itl be on the opposite side of the seat. Easy enough to do.

did this at the weekend, so simple for the bottom bolster. like new now! well after a clean maybe

Ian - If you turn them inside out, you could swap the driver's with the passenger's. Then the lever cutouts will be in the correct positions. Won't this mean the stitching's on the outside though? Or is the inside stitched the same as the outside? If it is, i'm gonna do mine.

Nope, that will not work. If you turn them inside out the stitching is on the outside and some little tags that hold the covers tight in the centres obviously would be exposed.

So what does Ian mean by "re-fit the covers inside-out" then?

What you need to do is take it along to an upholsterers and get them to redo the seats by using the material inside out, it will have to be restitched.

Ah, with you now.. I know you've told me about this before but i was missing the point. I got the impression it was simpler than that. Any guess on ball park price for upholsteres to switch passenger onto driver's and re-stitch? I'm gonna buy a spare passenger seat purely for this purpose.

I have just completed my 1st complete refurbisment of the drivers front seat using all the internal parts from a passengers seat, good news it only took 3 hours to complete the transfer, you need to undo all the screws and detach the back from the base, remove the head restraints, unclip the botton edges of the base and back seats upholstery, remove the lift handle on the sides, remove the plastic covers on the hinge sides" be carefull here they have some little croments inside some sprung plastic plugs" you need to push these out from underneath, as you remove the metal clips, some may brake, best alternative is cable ties this will also speed up the re-assembly, just put the foam incerts into the base and reverse the process, the base is relatively easy to do but the back has more clips to undo and several extra springs to contend with, to replace the foam in the back you will need to remove all the upholstery, you will need to remove the plastic guides for the head rest, by putting your hand inside the and squeezing the 4 retaining clips they all have to be squeezed at the same time, you can remove the upholstery first if this is proving awkward, but you will still need to remove them before you replace the foam to save damage, internal cables can then be changed before replacing the new foam and reversing as before, kit yourself 3 hours to complete and tidy up!

i've seen a mk2 golf that they did - black leather and yellow alcantara. wouldn't be my choice in colour, but it looked fantastic
