just planning ahead a bit and lots of you have had resprays. What kind of costs are people paying for spotless finish, but not necessarily concours? i have been quoted £1000-1500 by a local garage who loves his mk1 golfs so i know he would do a good job. Also been quoted £2500 by a localish guy who will do an award winning finish. I also know people that have paid £500 for very good looking jobs.


I will strip the car so it will just need a bit of filler and prep work and i want all shuts done, but not underside bonnet, engine area or inside car. Any thoughts? £1500 sounds about right to me.

I used to own a body shop, £1500 is roughly what I charged for what u require.

excellent. i can handle that and is what i expected. £1000 sounded a bit low considering the fact it has bodaykit so a far bit of extra work. thanks

If I were you I'd remove the kit yourself and hand it all over. Should reduce the cost a bit, and less chance of breaking it. Also I reckon plenty of bodyshops would just spray it all in one hit without removing it.

cheers mate. they will be getting it in pieces! no glass, bodykit, handles, trim, lights, bumpers, interior etc. I have learnt before that they will just tape stuff up which is ok, but better to just remove the bits really and get it painted right to the edges! it had a £2500 paint job (done by dads mate who owned the shop - charged me £600) when i was about 17 (32 now!) so it is really very good already, it just has scratches from the builders and vandilism plus rust has bubbled here and there where i cut corners the first time around when i was 17. The fact it lasted so long is very impressive!

Where are you located? Im in Devon and I could spray your car for less than you would get quoted in any bodyshop.

as with any kind of paint job believe me when i say the money is all in the prep work!!
putting paint on isnt that hard in my opinion but getting the body in a worthy state to take the paint is a full on pros job.
ive lost count how many times ive rubbed the crusty rusty rocket down and reskimmed in areas im not happy with to get it right, yet now ive sprayed it you can see bits ive missed that you would never tell before the paint went on.
getting a good finish is worth every penny.
