Clearing PM folders

Like a numpty I haven't cleared my PM folders and now find my sent one is showing over 100% full. I'd like to clear/update the folders but it looks like I can only bring messages up for upto a year ago. Is it possible to go back further to clear them out? Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
