Why would you ever use dot3?

Whenever something calls for dot3 I always stick with dot4 due to the higher boiling point and less absorption of water.

I'm still confused as to why anyone would use dot3.

Is it less caustic than dot4 so has to be used in older systems.

Its not particularly cheaper, so just confused why it's still for sale...I Must be missing something?

Dot 4 is compatible with dot 3 systems. I didn't realise you could still get dot 3. I suppose it's for the "everything must be original" brigade
