Coil Overs vs Suspension Kits

Hi all, got a cheap and cheerful set of coil overs on my car (TA Technix??), the ride is harsh with very little damping. The car is actually not slammed down low, due to the state of the roads around here.
What Iam looking for is either dampers and lowering springs or another set of coil overs. Had a look at G MAx Suspension Kits, but to be told that kit is unavailable, plus iwould need the old bits and pieces from the old original suspension, which i dont have..
Now the dilemma is, does anyone have experience of the AP Coilovers ?? Ride comfort of the AP vs cheap TA Technix??

Just want a smoother ride than what we have now, not really bothered about adjustment in ride height (would be happy with fixed rate springs and dampers).

Hello Mark.

On my 1992 Scala I have Koni adjustable shocks. You can get the none adjustable for cheaper but I think with something as important as the suspension it is nice to be able to fine tweek it now and then.

There’s a link above of what mine look like but I’m sure you can pick them up cheaper.

I’ve never had coilovers so I can’t comment. But what I would say is these shockers on standard springs are top drawer, there’s no hard rolling in the corners and they take to potholes quite well if you happen to hit one.

Hope this helps. Have a further look on eBay. I’m sure these go for much less money.

Hey Mark, I have JOM coilovers on mine, mid priced but without all the adjustable dampers (I just wanted to have good ride comfort and adjust the height to what I wanted, the rest would have been lost on me!!!!) had then on for about 2 years and really happy with them.

Next time your at a meet I'll take you for a spin so you can see what there like :)

I've yet to see coil overs that aren't harsh without spending daft money.

Just fitted an AP -35mm spring and shock kit to my mk2, plus new top mounts at the old were falling apart. Its a little firmer than I'd like (I've got used to a soggy luxobarge) but isn't crashy

PM GTXTRA - He's had a few sets of AP's on his fleet, I imagine he'd give them a recommendation.

All

Went across to Venom Motorsport and took the plunge and ordered AP Coilovers, they had a MK2 Golf there running them. Just need to wait and see how the Scirocco rides on them, got to better than what I have now!!
