85 GT

Post by Bill »

Now i've worked at the same company for close to 25 years, so know most the people there well,
and one day in December 2012. when grabing a coffee out of the more than dubious machine before shooting off on a job the IT lady who again i've known for a long time,
came in and after usual hellos she said do you still own the Scirocco which you had some years ago,
this got use talking about the 2 cars i now own, and to my suprise she said that she had a car which had been in a garage since 1997 and although she still loved it needed to go.
as garage fees were getting too costly,
so a week later i went to look at the car on the understanding i would advertise the car on here, So as the door opened with a lot of effort,
Image
Looked tidy.so in i went.

Body looking very good for a car not moved in 15 years,

Well after a long talk on the what would happen to the car, and seeing i always wanted to do a early MK2 in a way i wanted
she said i could have the car, and could always buy it back when back on the road,
So this was going to be a lot of work including a respray, so where to keep it ?
Only one place.. And a call to your friendly neighbourhood Rocco man was done,
This now takes us to March 13, and a flatbed pickup, now 3 out of 4 tyres flat and brakes stuck like you know what, it did take some moving but we had the tools.

Nice one Bill. Will be great to see a nice non-bodykit GT that is prepared to your ultra high standards. Please tell me that you went all 'TRON' on those 80's wheel trims and threw them as far away as possible.

Currently without a car (long story)

Once at the Grotto we could have a good look around,

And then start the strip down, Now the 1.6 would have been a hell of a lot of work,
And i really wanted anti roll bars, so a donor was found with a nice 2.0 TSR on board.

With the donor engine out, rear beam off and front suspention, the refurb work could start, on the parts to reuse.
