i think my oil pressure light is flickering on sometimes but I can never really see it when it does because when I'm driving I'm paying more attention to the road.
Because paranoia is setting in is there a way to test oil pressure?
Last thing I want is to damage the engine.
The cars a late 1990 mk2 gt2 carb.
I did have a look at the oil pressure wiring to the side of the head and the cable looks a bit ropey but it's never been an issue before

At 2000rpm 80c oil temp should be 2.0 bar you would need to remove the oil sensor and fit in a test gauge. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13pc-Oil-Pres ... 4897.l4275

Tense moment this morning when I got the pressure tested at a local garage.
Luckily Pressure was fine ( reading 30 psi/2 bar @2 krpm) and the garage owner recommended I change the pressure switch.
Also thought it would be a good idea to fit a oil pressure gauge in the car so it can be monitored.
Really nice bloke and good garage.

There should be an oil pressure buzzer fitted to your car already. If the oil pressure drops below a set limit the buzzer sounds.
The buzzer works at revs above 2000 rpm so warm the car and rev it above 2000 rpm and unplug the pressure switch above the oil filter or it could be the switch on the side of the head and the buzzer should sound?

I might be wrong, but can low brake fluid also trigger the light? I have a memory of this happening to be before. Always had the light and buzzer go mad at me where the Oil pressure is too low or high.

i dont think so as usually the low brake fluid is the same as the handbrake light.
i forgot to put the reservior cap on once and subsequently when i drove it the handbrake light wouldnt go out.
