I have been told by our mechanic that to have your car probably under sealed by a body shop they will have to drill holes in the underneath of the car so it can be probably under sealed. And as our car is 25 years old this not worth doing. And there will be lot's of rust there. All your thoughts please it would be more then appreciated.

I'm not sure why they'd need to drill it? Just clean it up an spray it surely?

Depends on what you are painting on, I would not really use under seal if the paint is in good condition as VW put on some good rubberized paint, if there is any damage to the paint then treat any rust and use epoxy mastic or a stone chip paint then waxoyl (or similar) the bottom. You really need to clean the underneath first to see what it's like.
VW has put holes around the car so you can spray in wax in to the sills etc, there is a rubber grommet covering the holes or take the door cards off and gain access through there, you will need a long tube to spray the stuff in.
DO NOT DRILL ANY HOLES they will just start to rust around the hole.
You can get places that will clean and treat the car for you.
I would not listen to your mechanic on this occasion.
Waxoyl. But you will need a sprayer, can and hoses, it also it needs to be warm to work/spray.

I can recommend
http://www.rust.co.uk/epoxy-mastic-rust ... nt/c28117/# epoxy paint. I use this professional to rust proof cars and can be aplied with a brush. As for cavity waxes I found dintrol is the best. If your not got a compressor waxoyl do a DIY sprayer kit. I think halfords sell them.

you can get dinitrol in spray tins that come with a 600mm tube with a spray jet in the end. very easy diy job, and you can buy a kit to do the whole car - non setting stuff for in the sills/pillars etc, clear wax for under the bonnet and a black setting one for wheel arches and underside of the floor.
