windscreen washer pump not working but got 12 volts?

hello

after the rebuild i can't get my washer pump to work. after I connected the pump back up i got the jets to spray a couple of times, but since the mot the jets won't spray as the pump won't pump. if I disconnect the wires from the pump and pull the washer jet stalk the wipers do their cycle and there's 12 volts at the connector. so there's voltage at the pump.. but when i connect the wires and pull the stalk the relay doesn't click and the wipers don't do their cycle, the pump won't turn and there's no spraying at the jets.

logically it sounded like a bad pump but i've replaced it with a new one and it does the same.. almost like the connector shorts when plugged into the washer pump? checked fuses and they're all ok.

anyone got any ideas? i'm getting tired of having to pour bottled water onto the windscreen! cheers

Perhaps the pump is knacked. Try another pump

have you tried testing the pump with a 12v feed straight from the battery? make sure that you've got it connected to good earths too. you can get a bad earth that will show 12v on a meter until you put a load on it then it will drop right down

I had a seized washer pump last year, ran direct 12v to it...No movement but I could hear it was trying. I sprayed around it with a mixture of acetone and ATF to loosen it up, switched the polarity to reverse it which freed it up. Then wired it all back and it's still working...Might save you sourcing another one.
