Scirocco Register

Hey everyone,

this is the first winter that I will have had my car. I didn't know where else to put this. I was wondering what I could do to help her get through the winter. I am gonna change the oil and oil filter as I do relatively short journeys. I can't really cover her because she is used most days. Was just looking for some tips for extra care etc.

check - wipers and washer fluids, carry a set of bulbs.

last brake fluid service?

keep the rear arches and rear axle mounts clear of any salt and mud each week - or they will dissolve.........

keep an eye on the scuttle panel/heater box area - leaves etc will block the drain holes

make sure the door cards are fitted properly - otherwise you will get leaks into footwell

These are a good idea for keeping the battery in good condition, I have these fitted to both my Sciroccos.
Easy to fit and acts like a sleeping bag to keep the battery nice and snug!

Another thought if car is not in daily use -

Save the battery but keep the stereo/clock settings - http://www.richbrook.co.uk/dis-car-nect ... f-switch90 - plus it acts as a cheap immobiliser.

something i have allways done and it works, is to wipe clean all the brake lines and fuel lines and then liberally smear grease over the lines to protect them from the salt.
another thing is to spray loads of WD40 into the lock mechanism and barrels as this will help stop them freezing up when it gets very cold.
obviously check your antifreeze concentration is higher than 30% and your screen wash consists of more than just water otherwise wave goodbye to the washer bottle when it freezes and splits open.
if your tyres are worn nows a good time to change them aswell as its this time of year you need them the most.
check your alternator belt is ok and the correct tension, if that goes so does your power supply for the battery and that wont last long, i go as far as to keep a spare in the boot with a 13mm and 22mm spanner just incase.
