Scirocco Register

I have a 32/34 weber carb on my GT2, which has been working fine up until the last few weeks, where it has started pulling (not sure if that's the right terminology!) the choke back in itself when accelerating/ moving off. This is obviously only an issue when on a cold start as it can be pushed right in once its warmed up, but I did have a bit of a 'moment' pulling fairly sharpish out of a junction for it to then suck itself back in and nearly cut the engine out midway across the road, which was a tad unnerving.

I can't say I know an awful lot about carbs, so what could it be?

Mines allways been like that. I use a clothes peg on the shaft to hold it in position.
I have wondered if an old mini twist to lock type choke cable would fit?

The old mini twist lock choke never used to work neither in the 4 mini's I had so I used to use a clothes peg on those as well!
My webber on the Scirocco stays out so something is worn on yours letting it back in.

Check the vacuum linkage to choke Flap stop it may be a case the stop screw has gone out of adjustment so when you accelerate the vacuum is opening the flap more than 3.5mm or the stop screw between throttle lever and choke cam is out of adjustment.
Look from the passenger side and check all cables are connected clamps are tight before engine is started get some one to pull choke fully out start engine then let run for 20 seconds you should instantly see the diaphragm move a short arm this is opening the choke flap a small amount around 3.5mm. Then while you watch the linkages arms etc rev the engine with a sharp burst to around 3000 revs (depending on your views on revving a cold engine) and check anything hasn't gone out of adjustment causing the choke to close. Search online and I am sure your find all the settings for the throttle linkage to choke arm stop and vacuum pull down stop.

Over the years I have had the DMTL 32/34 on fords and 3 VW's latest my GT2 scirocco and cant remember needing to twist and lock the choke knob.

The choke normally has a return spring to help the cable return without kinking. What cable are you using?

I really have no idea, I had a garage install it!

Although, as with most problems I have, it has appeared to have stopped doing it since posting up on here. When I was having a play with it I did twist the knob (Hurr Hurr) so it felt tight, so I guess that might've solved it? But thanks for the suggestions, if it messes up again I'll take a better look at it!

do you mean pull it out then 1/4 turn to lock? that's how most of them are supposed to be used. if you don't turn it to lock, it is meant to slide back in

Never had to twist my choke to get it stay out on?

Same as mine never had to twist it as my Scirocco warmed up I pushed the cable in manually it never pulled in on its own.

Which is why I said most and not all.

i dont drive mine on the choke.
start it let it heat up. it only takes 1-2 mins idling on the choke
