Hi all,

I'm getting strong vibration through the steering wheel worst at about 60mph+ I've changed: full tie rods both sides, cv's inner outer both sides, ARB Brackets and bushes.

Any suggestions?

I think it's with wheel bearings, steering bushes, or alloy wheels buckled.

Tyres are wearing on the insides both sides.
Alloys are 6j and tyres are 7j could this be causing virbration?

These things were changed as they needed changed not necessarily to fix this issue but was Alf hoping they would resolve the vibration.

Wear on tyres is either tracking or camber being out. Have you had your wheels balanced, normally a primary cause of vibration at speed if they are out.

Agree with Rob, get the wheels balanced!

Hi forgot to mention wheels have been balanced. Made no difference. I asked for alignment to be done at same time but they said it would take an hour as only one side at time could be aligned.

Never heard of 7J tyres? The 6 (or 7) is the width of the wheel in inches.
Have you tried different wheels on the car?

No I was debating on a trip to the scrappy but I was just asking for ideas to save me buying everything when it could be one definte thing.

I'm through the looking glass abit on this one. I debated whether the tyres are too wide but I haven't changed them since I got them and I never used to get the vibration, it just seems to of happened and I be changed the knackered stuff that I can see.

Yea with the tyres /wheels the 7j on the tyres could be anything I just put two and two together and guessed it was tyre width.

Try putting the wheels from the back onto the front and see if there is any difference?

As for the tracking do you have adjustable track rod ends on both sides of the steering rack? From new VW did fit a fixed track rod on one side but if you have replaced both of them for one like this http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/V ... 60b&000349

You should be able to adjust the tracking on both wheels, the garage is talking rubbish so maybe worth trying a different garage which can do the tracking.

Did the garage that said they couldn't do the tracking balance the wheels? If so take it somewhere else, most places will only charge you if they need balancing and not checking, worth the effort I'd say!

Yea its the same garage I never paid for the balance because it made no difference when they did it and like you say they were talking waffle. I've changed to adjustable both sides now and roughly tracked em but it was vibrating before I changed them mind.

Either the balancing was done badly or one or more of the weights have come off.

Which is what I suspect and wrote on my previous post!
Get a second opinion from another place.

Rotated wheels front to back and vibration is there but lessened quite a bit. Rear wheels had no weights front passenger has 3 and driverside has four is this normal?

Wow, so the unbalanced backs are actually better than the balanced fronts?!

Four seems a bit excessive to me but I'm no expert, two is common, often on opposite sides.

Sounds like the fronts are not balanced correctly, most people don't balance the rears (I do!) as they don't really have an effect on steering.
As I said before go somewhere else and watch them do it!
There isn't a hard or fast rule on weights, but a dent garage should be able to spot a buckled wheel (unlikely).
