Engine hesitating
Hi guys,
I have a Scirocco mk2 1.8 gt2 2e2carb a problem started this week , car feels like it is hesitating on a constant throttle, say 40 mph 2500 rpm also has a tendency to stall needing a little more revs than usual, additionally if I stay in a low gear and rev it will not pass 4000rpm. It feels a little like carb icing but obviously not. It is idling fine choke is ok, I have sprayed carb cleaner in and checked some of the vacuum hoses. Any suggestions, maybe fuel pump? Blocked jets?
Thanks

Carb mount goosed? Easy to test, wiggle the airbox and listen for change in the noise.

Re: Engine hesitating
Hi,
Thanks for the replies, no crap in fuel filter, will buy some new fuel line and try that. Think the carb mount is ok. Excuse my ignorance how does the advance retard work? will doing a timing check diagnose that?
Thanks

Re: Engine hesitating
Stick the timing light on it and point at the crank pulley, having marked the notch to make it easier to see. Start engine with timing light on, and rev engine to make sure timing moves.
To set timing, throw away timing light, then keep advancing it until it pinks under load, then back off slightly.

Re: Engine hesitating
I would suggest not moving the timing until you know there isn't another fault. Check adv/retards working though
Have you got a vacuum gauge? Google how to use it for diagnostics
