Oil PRV

Hi where is Oil PRV is it in the sump with the oil pump? I ask because I think it's sticking open on startup from cold.

I'm getting normal pressure at idle but when I go to accelerate the oil pressure goes off the scale and the engine misses and cuts out.

So I'm thinking the valve it's sticking open and flooding the tappets and stopping them closing and stopping the compression cycle.

The tappets are nearly new and all the clearances are fine and working as they should.

I've trawled forums and found out for definte that the prv is part of the oil pump on a 16v so I'm hoping it's the same for 8v plus my oil pump will need changed soon anyway so no harm done even if it's not the same as 16v.

If your oil pressure is high then the PRV is sticking shut not open. The PRV is normally slightly open when the engine oil is cold to keep the pressure at a controlled level below 5 bar. Regardless of open or shut if you have pressure problems then change the pump sooner rather than later before any damage is caused.
