As with any tyres avoid cheapshit ditch finders, tyres are the only point of contact with the black stuff so invest in something that is top quality.
I have Pirelli P6000's on both my Sciroccos and Continental on my Audi, and can recommend both!

as in brands to avoid? linglong, triangle, debica, sunnytire, double coin, double happiness, autogard, infinity, goodride, effiplus, hifly, sailun, landsail, fortuna, westlake, haida, jinyu, achillies (still can't believe someone thought that was a good name!), "black circles budget" (other tyre companies are available) blah blah blah...

basically, anything that is described as a budget tyre is probably a bad move.

i won't recommend a particular brand, i'd just advise you to go with a "name brand" that you know and trust (dunlop, bridgestone, toyo, whatever. these were just the first 3 that popped into my head)

i'd also be wary of tyre reviews that say "i've used ditchfinder super skid tyres and never had a problem" as they usually mean that pootling to work and back, they haven't careered off the road backwards. yet.

i'd also largely ignore tyre eco/efficiancy ratings. the difference is very very small. i'd sooner have something that grips than something that saves me 0.0000000001mpg

my rocco has toyo proxes4 fitted, but i coudn't tell you what they're like as i haven't driven on them yet. i bought them from demon tweeks, and chose that tyre as it is a recommended tyre for the TF, and they did me a good deal on 2 full sets

to be fair Ian, if you fit ditchfinders, they probably won't be the only point of contact with the tarmac

Oh too true, but plenty of people still fit them even to save just a couple of quid!

I'm thinking 185 65 14, but wouldn't swear to it

Has to be 60 profile as I made the mistake of fitting 65 profile winter tyres that rubbed on the inner spats.
I have 185/60/14 on my snowflakes
