Rattling Rear Brakes

Hi Guys

i've been getting a clackety clack when going over even a slightly rough road. :dash:

I'm fairly convinced it's coming from the rear brakes. :dunno:

The brakes still seem to work ok but i'm going up to Scotland soon and would feel better if it was sorted before then. :yup:

Anyone got any ideas?

Danny :thankyou:

Loose brake shoe/spring inside rear drum or handbrake cable rubbing on inside of drum?

as above, or wheel bearing u/s, spring broken, shock broken, arb broken or bush collapsed.

it's probably sensible to investigate before driving it anywhere, let alone the other end of the country

Ta much for the help guys.

It's almost certainly loose shoes the suspension and bearings have been checked.

The garage think it might be something to do with the adjusting wedge?

I've also had problems with the handbrake not holding the car properly on steep hills (loads of them round here) it's ok for a while after it's been adjusted but not great.

Any suggestions could the springs be on wrong? Could i need new drums? Could i need new wedges?

Any help gratefully received as it's going into the garage next week.

ta again

Dan

Worn wedges (sounds painful!) Is possible. They're lightly serrated so they stay put, but they do eventually wear and unadjust themselves

There is a spring which pulls the wedge down and sometimes the spring can be lose with old age, you can get a service it which includeds all the springs for £10 ish, not sure where you can buy a new wedge?

Seems i don't know my front end from my rear end (you can phrase that how you like?). :dunno:

seems it was the dirt shields on the front brakes that are rattling.
