recent experience shows there are two connections that are cable size 5.0 and they connect to the two large pins on block P on the back of the fuse box.
One runs to the battery and the other runs to the ignition somewhere behind the dash i believe.

cheers guys, but still there was a topic on the old forum, wheres it gone?
....ok what i attually want to know, is which pin is it, or which of many, go live when the ignition is on? (output of relay X?)

Dude, all German cars have the following wiring colours:
RED: Battery +ve
BLACK: Ignition
BROWN: Earth
There are pins on the battery input side that you can just connect a spade terminal to and get +ve. IIRC its on the left side at the back, as you're looking at the front of the fusebox
There are also pins on the ignition input side, right hand side.
