Passenger Electric Window Wont Retract

As title.
Worked last week but yesterday I tried it and it wont go down (tried both passenger and drivers side switches).
When I try up on either side I can hear the motor but obviously it doesnt go up any further!
Any idea what would cause just the down to stop working?

Let me get this straight, is the window halfway down and you now cant move it either up or down?
Or am I missing it completely?
If you can hear the motor working, then it could be something wrong with the mechanism, ie cable jammed or flared etc.

Sorry I should have been clearer.
The window is closed at present. Therefore although I can hear the motor trying to move up when I click up it cant because theres no where to go.
When I click down I hear nothing..
I'll check out the cable because I did move it around when I changed the door cards recently.. Cheers

i've had this and it was one of the wires that came off (spade connector under the tape).
check both sides as the drivers side is the master

Thanks for everyone for replying to this thread. I took the door card off today and had a look - all the wiring seemed fine.
So I rubbed down the electric connectors still no good.
I put it all back together and went for a quick breeze and as I did I thought it cant hurt to try .. tried it and it worked
Odd I know but hey ho its working so Im happy

Does sound like a loose/poor connection probably on the drivers side. For a while i had to press mine 3 times to go down on the passenger side and then it fixed itself.
I put it down to the 'VW self fixing problem' which is quite common but at the same time quite handy
